  • Use the Signal Search Map from www.rabbitears.info to check the distance you are from the TV transmission towers, then check our Antenna Selection recommendation following this table.
  • Indoor antenna:
    • A well designed indoor antenna will generally work up to 30 miles. An antenna claiming hundreds of miles range – no TV antenna can work at beyond-the-horizon distances due to the curvature of the Earth blocking the TV signal.
    • If the antenna requires power then the power cable must be connected and the antenna powered on for any channels to be received.
    • Use the Signal Search Map from www.rabbitears.info to check the direction of the TV transmission towers. Make sure the antenna is pointing in that direction. Ideally place the antenna in a window in that direction so the signal doesn’t have to go through walls.
  • Outdoor antenna:
    • An antenna claiming hundreds of miles range – no TV antenna can work at beyond-the-horizon distances due to the curvature of the Earth blocking the TV signal.
    • If the antenna includes a mast-head amplifier you must connect the power injector that came with the antenna for any channels to be received.
    • Try connecting the HDHomeRun directly to the antenna cable without going through any splitters or distribution amplifiers. If there is a mast-head amplifier the power injector must still be connected.
    • If you have multiple rooms with antenna outlets test in a different room.
  • If you are close to the transmission towers and you are using an amplified antenna it is possible that the signal is too strong for the amplified antenna or for the amplified splitter inside the HDHomeRun resulting in distortion. We recommend replacing the antenna with a good quality non-amplified antenna.
  • If you are close to a cell phone tower and you are using an amplified antenna you may be experiencing LTE interference that is too strong for the amplified antenna or the amplified splitter inside the HDHomeRun resulting in distortion. We recommend replacing the antenna with a good quality non-amplified antenna and using a LTE filter that passes 608MHz / blocks 618MHz such as the Silicondust LPF-608M.
  • The HDHomeRun features a “send diagnostic information” feature that allows Silicondust support staff to see raw reception information in order to diagnose the problem.
    1. Launch the HDHomeRun app on your Android phone or iPhone.
    2. Go into the Settings menu (click DVR to exit Live TV, then the Settings menu is the gear icon at the top-right of the screen).
    3. Toggle “Send diagnostic information” to ON.
    4. Select Channels, Scan Channels.
