- Use the Signal Search Map from www.rabbitears.info to check the distance you are from the TV transmission towers, then check our Antenna Selection recommendation following this table.
- Indoor antenna:
- A well designed indoor antenna will generally work up to 30 miles. An antenna claiming hundreds of miles range – no TV antenna can work at beyond-the-horizon distances due to the curvature of the Earth blocking the TV signal.
- If the antenna requires power it means it has a built in amplifier. The HDHomeRun already has a built-in amplifier – using an antenna that also has a built-in amplifier can make reception worse and may result in fewer channels. We recommend replacing the antenna with a good quality non-amplified antenna. See the Antenna Selection table.
- Use the Signal Search Map from www.rabbitears.info to check the direction of the TV transmission towers. Make sure the antenna is pointing in that direction. Ideally place the antenna in a window in that direction so the signal doesn’t have to go through walls.
- Outdoor antenna:
- An antenna claiming hundreds of miles range – no TV antenna can work at beyond-the-horizon distances due to the curvature of the Earth blocking the TV signal.
- Try connecting the HDHomeRun directly to the antenna cable without going through any splitters or distribution amplifiers. If there is a mast-head amplifier the power injector must still be connected.
- If you have multiple rooms with antenna outlets test in a different room.
- LTE:
- If there is a cell tower nearby operating in the 618+MHz LTE frequency band you may need a LTE filter. The LTE filter must pass up to 608MHz and block above 618MHz such as the Silicondust LPF-608M.
- If you have a LTE filter or your antenna includes a LTE filter check the frequency specifications. A “695MHz” or “700MHz” filter is an older LTE filter that does not block the newer 618+MHz LTE band.
- Silicondust support can confirm if LTE interference before buying a filter.
- The HDHomeRun features a “send diagnostic information” feature that allows Silicondust support staff to see raw reception information in order to diagnose the problem.
- Launch the HDHomeRun app on your Android phone or iPhone.
- Go into the Settings menu (click DVR to exit Live TV, then the Settings menu is the gear icon at the top-right of the screen).
- Toggle “send diagnostic information”.
- Select Channels, Scan Channels.
- Send an email to support@silicondust.com including the Device ID of your HDHomeRun. Or during business hours we offer phone callback support: www.silicondust.com/contact/
