USB drive connected to the HDHomeRun:

The most common cause of recordings stopping before the end is the storage device being too slow to keep up with TV. If this is the problem you might experience every recording stopping, or you might only experience the problem when 2 or more shows are being recorded at once.

If you are using a USB flash stick you should replace it with a conventional USB hard drive.

If you are using a high performance USB 3.1/3.2 NVMe drive and the HDHomeRun log shows the HDHomeRun powered on during the recording it may be that the drive is drawing more than 1A, exceeding USB 3.0/2.0 power limits. The HDHomeRun FLEX supports USB drives up to 1A.

You can check the log from the HDHomeRun for more information:

Note: timestamps in the HDHomeRun log are in UTC time, not local time.

Recording to a Windows PC:

Some third party security software will scan the entire recorded file from the beginning each time more content is added to the recording. This causes writes to get slower and slower as the recording gets longer, eventually taking too long to keep up with recording.

  1. We recommend using Windows Defender on Windows.
  2. If using third party security software you may need to turn off advanced scanning on the C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\HDHomeRun folder.
